Skin Cancer Awareness Month

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, a vital time to raise awareness about the most common form of cancer in the UK. While skin cancer is often treatable when caught early, prevention and early detection are key.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the UK, with over 156,000 non-melanoma cases diagnosed annually. Melanoma, the deadliest form, accounts for around 17,500 new cases each year and is projected to rise to 26,500 by 2040.

🔍 Know the signs:

  • A sore that doesn’t heal within 4 weeks
  • Unusual skin changes: red, itchy, bleeding, or scabbing
  • New or changing moles

Early detection is crucial, if you notice any of these symptoms, consult your GP promptly.

☀️ Sun Safety Tips:

✅Use SPF 30+ sunscreen
✅Wear protective clothing and hats
✅Seek shade during peak sun hours (11 am–3 pm)
✅Avoid sunbeds
✅Up to 86% of melanoma cases are preventable with proper sun protection .
